Not much has been heard recently about the peace process between the Turkish state and the Kurdish PKK, which is also classified as a terrorist organization in the EU. The imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan called on his party and militia to disband in February, and the first symbolic laying down of arms took place in Kurdish northern Iraq in the summer. The PKK announced that its fighters from Turkey will now withdraw there.
