“Rio de Janeiro ends the day with an image that speaks for itself: more than 100 rifles seized by the Civil and Military Police. After that, does anyone still doubt that our security forces are doing their part?”, wrote the governor in a post on social media.

Publication on the Rio de Janeiro government profile on X (formerly Twitter) shows another 13 rifles seized this Tuesday. “After a confrontation with criminals, teams from the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) seized 18 rifles in the town of Vacaria, in the Penha favela complex, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro,” says the publication.

“60 criminals neutralized”
In a video published on social media, Cláudio Castro classified the operation as “a serious blow to crime”.
“Today is an important day for Rio de Janeiro: the biggest operation in the history of our police forces. So far, we have 60 criminals neutralized, 81 arrested and 75 rifles seized”, said Castro in a statement. “I have no doubt that this is a day when we are dealing a serious blow to crime,” he added.
The governor also said that policing will continue to be reinforced on the streets to guarantee the safety of the population. “The police will not leave the street until the situation is completely normalized, so you can go home today and work tomorrow. So, trust the security forces. We are working hard because we want a crime-free Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.”
