Israel returns to bombing Gaza and kills more than 90 people – 24 were children

The wave of Israeli attacks began late this Tuesday afternoon, by order of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after having accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire, which has been in force for more than two weeks.

Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Army the immediate execution of “strong attacks in the Gaza Strip”after a meeting with security sector officials.

The meeting was called after Israel accused the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas of returning remains that, after forensic examinations, were identified as belonging to a hostage who had already been recovered and buried in November 2023.

Furthermore, the Israeli Army also stated that it would respond with fire to a alleged Hamas attack against his troops in the Rafah region, in the south of the Gaza Strip.

“Hamas opened fire on the troops in Rafah with sniper fire and anti-tank artillery,” reported a military source cited by the EFE agency.

The Palestinian group denied, however, any involvement in these attacks.

At least 91 dead

At least 91 Palestinians, including 24 children and seven womendied following Israeli bombings – according to medical and Civil Defense sources in the enclave.

The center of the Gaza Strip was the hardest hit area, with at least 42 deaths, due to attacks – many of them carried out by drones – against houses and buildings in the Nuseirat refugee camp, according to medical sources.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that, “after a series of attacks that hit dozens of terrorist targets”, is restore the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

“In accordance with Government directive, after a series of attacks that hit dozens of terrorist targets and neutralized terrorists in response to Hamas violations, the Army resumed implementing the ceasefire,” said the Israeli military statement.

Israeli authorities stated that their forces attacked “30 terrorists who held command positions in terrorist organizations” operating within Palestinian territory.

The note also stated that Israeli forces would continue to respect the ceasefire agreement, but would respond firmly to any violation of the pact.

Israel notified the US before launching the attackstwo North American officials assured international media.

Hamas postpones hostage handover

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas accused Israel of violating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and will postpone the delivery of the body of a hostage, under the agreement in force since October 10.

“We will postpone the delivery, due to violations of the occupation,” said the armed wing of Hamas in a statement published on the social network Telegram.

The armed wing of Hamas had announced that it would hand over the body of a hostage on Tuesday afternoon, through the Red Cross, but, a few hours later, Israel accused the Palestinian group of targeting its troops in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, and said that the alleged attack was responded to.

In its statement, al-Qassam Brigades warned that “any escalation” of the situation in the territory by Israel will make it difficult to search, excavate and recover the bodies of the remaining 13 hostages to be returned.
