A fire followed by an explosion at a Waldo’s department store killed 23 people, including children, and injured 12 others in Hermosillo, capital of the state of Sonora, Mexico. The accident occurred on Saturday (Nov 1, 2025), in the central region of the Mexican city. The information is from .

Of the 12 injured people, 6 remained hospitalized this Sunday morning (02.nov), as reported by the Public Ministry of Sonora.

The president of Mexico, (Morena, left), his “deepest condolences” to the families and loved ones of the victims. She said she is in contact with the state governor to provide support and ordered the Secretary of the Interior to send a team to assist the families of the victims and those injured.

“I have contacted the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, to offer all necessary support. I have instructed the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, to send a support team to assist the families and those injured”, said Claudia Sheinbaum in a post on X.

Waldo’s mourned the deaths in and stated that he is collaborating with the authorities in the investigations.

“At Waldo’s, we deeply regret what occurred in one of our stores in Hermosillo, which resulted in the loss of human life and injuries, according to preliminary reports from authorities.

“We express our solidarity with those affected and their families. Our team is working to provide the necessary support in these circumstances.

“The causes of what happened are being investigated by local authorities, as is the case in these cases. We will collaborate in a transparent and responsible manner as necessary,” said the department store.
