Health: the focus is no longer the minister – it is Montenegro. What about the Marta Temido case?

Between candidates for President of the Republic or political analysis, “the game is over” for Ana Paula Martins. Prime Minister holds the minister for what reason?

Presidential candidate Henrique Gouveia e Melo stated that the continuity from the Minister of Health Ana Paula Martins It is the responsibility of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and it is necessary to explain this to the Portuguese.

The retired admiral criticized the way the health issue is being handled.

“The issue of health is much broader than the role of the minister. It is an issue that is dragging on, that has to be resolved, the Portuguese are worried, health professionals are not happy and the system increasingly requires more resources”, stated the candidate, for whom there is a “clear organizational problem”.

And he continued: “if the Minister of Health stays or stops [na sequência da morte de uma grávida na sexta-feira no Hospital Amadora-Sintra]this is a Prime Minister’s responsibility and the prime minister is co-responsible, as head of government, for the way in which health has responded or not to the wishes of the Portuguese”.

André Ventura also thinks that “the Prime Minister must take responsibility“, although he also points the finger at the Minister of Health and the President of the Republic, who “must hold the Government responsible in this matter”.

The president of Chega criticized the Minister of Health for not taking political responsibility for the failures in the National Health Service (SNS), considering that the Government holds everyone responsible except itself.

“There can be no deaths of people that they are relying on the health service without anyone being responsible and that we have a Government that holds everyone responsible except itself”, said André Ventura in Loulé, in the Algarve.

“Today we have a Government that thinks that everyone is responsible, except those who actually have political responsibility”, he highlighted.

André Ventura said he had already seen the Minister of Health “accept responsibility” from other people for INEM service failures, for births outside hospitals and maternity wards and, “now, even for information failures”. “There is only one person who never takes responsibility: it is the Minister of Health”, he highlighted.

Asked whether the “claim for responsibility” means a “request for resignation of the Minister of Health”, Ana Paula Martins, the leader of Chega was evasive in his response to journalists, limiting himself to stating that the minister “must take political responsibility” for the state of Health.

The leader of Chega also accused the President of the Republic to “disappear” and not demand answers from minister Ana Paula Martins.

“We all watched for several years a President of the Republic who, in relation to other Ministers of Health, criticized and demanded responsibility”, he noted, recalling the dismissal of former Minister of Health Marta Temido.

“The doctor Marta Temido he resigned following a death in a hospital and, now, we have a President of the Republic who disappeared because the Government is of his political color and already thinks that he does not have to ask for responsibility”, he maintained.

“The game is over”

For Ana Sá Lopes, the Minister of Health “is no longer responsible” for this accumulation of health problems in Portugal.

That’s why, “the game is already over” for Ana Paula Martins. “The end has nothing to do with the moment of dismissal, because already is fired, it just hasn’t been formalized yet.”

The political commentator attacked “racist statements and incompetent phrases” that he gave in the Assembly of the Republic about this case – when the pregnant woman who died did not speak Portuguese, did not have a family doctor or did not have a cell phone.
