Not every band goes through decades maintaining its essence — and reinventing itself at the same time. proved that this is possible. On November 21st, the audience in Brasília will witness the living history of a trio that helped transform Brazilian sound and still inspires new artists, fans and cultural movements today.
The trajectory of Herbert Vianna, Bi Ribeiro and João Barone began like so many others: between home rehearsals, improvised recordings and the boldness of someone who just wanted to make music.
Few imagined that the trio, who one day opened a Lulu Santos show at Circo Voador and caught the attention of EMI, would become a symbol of rock made in the country and a reference for an entire urban, restless and creative generation. From the ebullience of the Rio and Brasília scene in the 1980s to the biggest stages in the country, Paralamas didn’t just follow the story — they helped tell it.
Whether with sharp guitars, pulsating brass or lyrics that accurately portray the collective feeling of each era, the group has built a repertoire that ranges from social chronicles to romantic poetry, without losing its ability to surprise. They were reggae when no one else was; they were Latinos when the scene was still shy; and, above all, they were honest with their art. The public recognizes: this is why “Oculos”, “Melô do Marinheiro”, “Alagados”, “Meu Erro”, “Lanterna dos Afogados” and so many others cross generations as if they had never aged.
Now, at the Estilo Brasil Festival, the trio revisits its own history with a tour that highlights not just successes, but the journey, meetings, partnerships and musical experimentation that have always been the group’s hallmarks.
A show for those who have been there since the beginning and for those who discovered Paralamas on streaming — because classics, when they are true, belong to everyone.
The Estilo Brasil Festival is hosted by Banco do Brasil Estilo, sponsored by BB Visa, Banco do Brasil and Federal Government cards. The realization is Metropolisesproduced by Oh! Arts.
