Participants at COP30, which will take place in Belém, should prepare for considerable expenses for food and drinks in the event’s well-known Blue Zone. The report from Young Pan found that the prices at one of the food kiosks are alarming. A simple 350 ml bottle of water sells for R$25, a high price for an essential item.
In addition to water, other beverage options are also far from affordable. Soft drinks have the same price of R$25, while natural juices made from fruits typical of the region, such as guava, acerola, passion fruit and cupuaçu, are sold at R$30 each.
Complete meals have even higher prices. The fillet with Madeira sauce is sold for R$70, and alternatives such as zucchini lasagna and chess chicken cost R$60 each. The natural sandwiches, regardless of the filling – chicken, mixed or cheese – have a fixed price of R$35. For those who want a more traditional snack, the meat drumstick costs R$30, while the potato broth with garlic costs R$60.
The prices of desserts and sweets also do not go unnoticed. A brigadeiro is sold for R$20, and a brownie can be purchased for R$30. As a way of mitigating the financial impact, the event organizers provided drinking fountains with disposable cups for participants.
The values mentioned are in reais, which can make the costs even more significant for Brazilian participants. On the other hand, international visitors who use the dollar may experience a relatively smaller impact due to currency conversion.
