Bicycle kick goal scored in a blizzard decided the Canadian championship

Under heavy snow, Atlético Ottawa became Canadian football champions by beating Cavalry 2-1 in the playoff final played last Sunday. The match, played in difficult conditions, was decided only in extra time and was marked by a spectacular goal that is already going around the world.

Cavalry opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, through a penalty converted by Fraser Aird. But shortly after, Atlético Ottawa responded with a moment of pure magic. In the 40th minute, David Rodriguez took advantage of a loose ball in the area and, without hesitation, launched a bicycle kick that touched the bar before going in. A title-worthy goal that brought the stadium to its feet.

In the second half, the balance remained and the result did not change, forcing extra time. It was then, in the 107th minute, that David Rodriguez was decisive again, scoring the second goal and sealing Atlético Ottawa’s triumph, which thus won the Canadian championship for the first time.
