Thailand’s interim Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, said this Friday (12) that he has a scheduled conversation with US President Donald Trump later in the day about the clashes on the border with Cambodia, which continue for the fifth day in a row.
Anutin told reporters that the call with Trump should take place around 9:20 pm local time (11:20 am in Brasília).
Trump who negotiated earlier this year, promising, for the third day in a row, to make calls to the leaders of both countries to try to put an end to the clashes.
At the Congressional Ball on Thursday night, Trump reinforced his credentials as a global peacemaker and expressed confidence that he would get the truce “back on track.”
“We’ve resolved eight wars. Think about it. Eight wars have been resolved, although I think we’re going to have to make some phone calls about Thailand and Cambodia, but we’re going to get this back on track,” he said.
The armies of Thailand and Cambodia have engaged in some of the most intense clashes since a five-day battle in July that Trump broke off with calls for both leaders to end the worst conflict in recent history.
At least 20 people died and more than 200 were injured, for days due to artillery and rocket fire.
