More serious injuries, absurd heat, knee and ankle suffering more. That’s what the players say
Let’s leave aside for a moment the Flamengo x Palmeiras fight and talk, today, about the elephant in the room: the 100% synthetic lawn.
What many people thought was “the inevitable future” is quickly becoming the past, at least for those who really want to be great.
Why? International finals? Door closed.
CONMEBOL and FIFA have already vetoed pure synthetics in the Libertadores, Sudamericana, Recopa and World Cup finals. Only natural or hybrid ironing (max. 5-7% synthetic fiber).
Players are outraged.
More serious injuries, absurd heat, knee and ankle suffering more. That’s what the players say.
Even FIFA certificates no longer convince athletes.
The hybrid won the game.
Today, the 95% natural + 5% fiber lawn can withstand almost the same insane schedule as the pure synthetic one and is still accepted in any decision on the planet.
Maracanã, Morumbi, Arena do Corinthians… they are all hybrids.
In Brazil, the CBF still releases synthetics in national finals (Copa do Brasil, for example), but conversations are already going on behind the scenes: standardization coming, probably from 2027, with the hybrid as the natural path.
Summary of the opera: Pure synthetics still survive in smaller rooms or places with extreme climates, but anyone who wants to decide on a big title at home – or give up their house – in South America already understands: either switch to hybrid or it won’t be possible.
This debate will still generate a lot of discussion.
