Trump removes Moraes from the list of those sanctioned under the Magnitsky Act – 12/12/2025 – Power

The Donald Trump government removed the minister, from the (Federal Supreme Court), from the list of individuals sanctioned based on.

Moraes had been sanctioned by the Trump administration on July 30.

In addition to Moraes, the American government also removed the judge’s wife, Viviane Barci, from the sanctioned list.

The law addresses serious human rights violations, including dictators, and the decision to use it for a Brazilian authority is unprecedented. The US applied the same sanction to members of Venezuela’s highest courts.

Through this decision, the Trump administration orders the freezing of any property or assets that the sanctioned individual has in the United States and may also prohibit American financial entities from carrying out transactions in dollars with a sanctioned person. This includes Mastercard and Visa credit card brands, for example.

In exchange, the institution offered Moraes a Brazilian Elo card, so he could make payments in the country without the restrictions imposed by the Trump administration.
