Orbán came to Rimavská Sobota: He said goodbye to the man (†89) who shaped the Hungarian minority

On Friday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán attended the funeral of Géza Erdélyi, bishop emeritus of the Reformed Christian Church in Slovakia, in Rimavská Sobota. According to the MTI agency, the correspondent of TASR in Budapest reports on this.

According to Orbán, during the difficult times of the regime change, Erdélyi stood at the head of the Hungarians living in Slovakia and not only restored churches and schools, but after decades of communism he also restored the self-confidence of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia.

Erdélyi belonged to a group of people whose members always knew that faith was also a matter of the nation, declared the Hungarian prime minister at the farewell to the bishop. The funeral was attended by high-ranking representatives of the church and political life from several countries.

Géza Erdélyi was born in 1937 in the village of Oborín in eastern Slovakia. During his life he also worked in the Gemer region, he was a bishop of the Reformed Christian Church in Slovakia from 1996 to 2008. He died on December 4 at the age of 89.
