A small plane crashed in central Mexico on Monday, killing at least seven people. According to local authorities, the plane was attempting an emergency landing. TASR informs about it based on the report of the AP agency.
The accident happened in the industrial area of the city of San Mateo Atenco, about five kilometers from Toluca airport and about 50 kilometers west of the capital of Mexico. The plane took off from Acapulco on the country’s Pacific coast.
According to the authorities, eight passengers and two crew members were registered on board the private plane. However, the bodies of only seven victims were found a few hours after the crash.
According to preliminary information, the plane was trying to land on a football field, but crashed into the metal roof of a nearby building, causing a massive fire. The causes of the accident are under investigation. The mayor of the city, Ana Muñiz, said that as a result of the fire, approximately 130 people had to be evacuated from the vicinity of the accident site.
