Musician Gilberto Gil, 83, shared this Saturday (20) a photo from the last show of his daughter Preta Gil, who died in July this year at the age of 50 due to cancer. In the caption he made reference to the singer’s absence: “Five months”.
In April, Preta made an appearance during her father’s performance at the Allianz Parque stadium, in São Paulo, during the “Tempo Rei” tour, announced as the singer’s farewell.
On the occasion, , a song that the singer wrote for Sandra Gadelha, Preta’s mother. While playing the guitar, Gil couldn’t contain his tears and cried next to his daughter, who went on and off the stage carried by her sisters.
On social media, this Saturday, Gil gained support in several comments. One of them, from his daughter Maria Gil. “And the longing only increases.”
Fans also remembered the presentation in São Paulo. “I had the privilege of watching this show with you and I was able to witness a packed stadium singing and crying with you! Eternally black! You are a sacred monster, Gilberto Gil”, said an internet user. “I was there too, impossible to hold back the emotion,” said another.

Brazilian cultural icon, Preta, daughter of Gilberto Gil, was from a traditional family in the artistic scene and was an important female figure, fighting against racism and fatphobia and for the rights of women and the LGBT+ community through her productions and activities in the sector.
In January 2023, Preta Gil announced on her social networks that she had been diagnosed with. The artist went to the hospital due to discomfort she had been feeling and spent six days in hospital undergoing tests.
A few months after receiving the cancer diagnosis, Preta filed for divorce from her personal trainer, with whom she had been married since 2015. According to her, the attitude was a “survival instinct” in the midst of treatment, after his alleged betrayal.
She died on July 20, 2025 in New York, United States, where she was undergoing treatment.
