Around 30 million euros, equivalent to around R$197 million reais, were stolen in cash and valuables in the city of Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
The criminals used a large drill to break through the walls and access the main safe of one of the Sparkasse bank branches, according to information from the local police. More than 3,000 safes containing money and valuable items, such as gold and jewelry, were broken into during the action.
The robbery took place this Tuesday (30). According to the France Presse news agency, those responsible for the crime remain at large. In an interview with the agency, one of the police spokespersons compared the robbery to the film “Ocean’s Eleven”.

“It takes a lot of prior knowledge and a lot of criminal energy to plan and execute this,” the source said. According to authorities, the criminals accessed the agency from a parking lot, where they made their way to the underground room of the main vault.
According to investigators, the criminals may have spent part of the weekend inside the safe. The break-in was only discovered after the emergency services carried out an analysis of the location, after the fire alarm was triggered on Monday (29).
The more than 3,000 boxes opened in the safe had an average insurance value of 10,000 euros. The police used these values to establish the damage estimate at 30 million euros. Some victims reported to the police that the losses exceeded the insurance value.
