City Hall will fine company after demolition of historic mansion in Belém

One historic mansion located at the intersection of Avenida Senador Lemos and Travesa Dom Romualdo de Seixas, in the Umarizal neighborhood, in Belém (PA), it was demolished this Wednesday (31), the last day of 2025.

Belém City Hall informed that the company responsible for the action will be fined for lack of demolition permitas provided for in urban planning legislation.

The case gained repercussion after being reported by councilor Marinor Brito (PSOL) on social media. In a publication, the parliamentarian lamented what happened and criticized the destruction of the historical heritage of the capital of Pará. “Not even on the last day of the year do the people have peace,” he wrote.

The councilor also stated that, upon becoming aware of the situation, she immediately contacted the Public Ministry, the Municipal Department of Culture (Semcult) and the Civil Police.

Still according to the councilor, the demolition was interrupted and the machine used in the action was seized. However, when the intervention was suspended, the The structure of the mansion had already been completely destroyed.

In a note, Belém City Hall clarified that the property it no longer had the status of listed asset since December 27, 2023when it was decommissioned through Decree nº 109.034-PMB, during the previous administration.

Despite that, the municipality informed that it will fine the company responsible for the demolition and adopt other appropriate administrative measures, after verifying that there was no demolition permit, a mandatory document for this type of urban intervention.

The City Hall did not inform the amount of the fine nor did it detail what other sanctions could be applied.
