O Flamengo is very close to deciding the departure of Matías Viña to River Plate, from Argentina. The Uruguayan left-back is close to one-year loan, without financial compensation, but with a mandatory purchase clause linked to the achievement of sporting goals. Only final adjustments remain for the agreement to be made official. The value of the possible purchase at the beginning of 2027 is 4 million dollars.
Furthermore, the Flamengo will stop paying R$750,000 of the athlete’s monthly salary.
At 28 years old, Viña participated in ten matches for Rubro-Negro last season and positively evaluates the possibility of playing in Argentine football. River had initially proposed a loan with an option to purchase, but agreed to transform the clause into an obligation, meeting a requirement from the Rio club.
Negotiations have progressed in recent days, and Flamengo and River officials are working on the final details of the contract to complete the operation.
Behind the scenes, the player’s preference has always been for the Buenos Aires club. Even with consultations from other teams, such as Besiktas, from Türkiye, Viña was not excited about alternatives outside of Argentina. The conversations continue in an optimistic atmosphere, with the expectation of a positive outcome.
The Uruguayan understands that he will have few opportunities at Flamengo in 2026. With Alex Sandro consolidated as a starter on the left flank and Ayrton Lucas as the first option on the bench, Viña ran the risk of being left out of even the related lists. Given this scenario, he received approval from the board to seek a new destination.
In 2025, the player had little space, playing just ten official games for Flamengo, largely due to injuries. Physically recovered, Viña is ready to act immediately and can be used by Marcelo Gallardo if the negotiation is completed. His contract with Flamengo is valid until December 2028.
