The Justice Department announced today that it foiled a plan by a North Carolina man to carry out an Islamic State-inspired attack involving knives and hammers on New Year’s Eve.
Kristen Sturdivant, 18, of Middle Hill, North Carolina, is charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, according to a statement issued by the Justice Department.
Sturdivant has not yet accepted the charges against him.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents, who searched the 18-year-old’s home, found a handwritten note titled “2026 New Year’s Day Attack,” where he allegedly discussed plans to stab up to 20 victims and attack police officers who rushed to the scene, authorities said.
