In it, Okamura defined himself against the provision of weapons to Ukraine and its leadership.
Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka met with Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Zvaryč on Monday. According to the ČT24 television, the reason for the meeting was, among other things, the diplomat’s criticism of the New Year’s speech of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura, writes TASR correspondent in Prague.
Zvaryč described the negotiations as good and said that he was looking forward to further cooperation. Macinka has not yet commented on the meeting, ČT24 reported.
In a speech published on social networks last week, Okamura declared that “Western companies and governments, as well as Ukrainian thieves around Zelensky’s junta, who build toilets out of gold” are making money from the war in Ukraine. He also spoke out against Ukraine joining the EU. His statements were subsequently criticized by the Ukrainian ambassador to the Czech Republic and the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefančuk.
Macinka said on Friday that the public evaluation of Okamura’s speech by the ambassador of a foreign country is not appropriate. “If any diplomatic mission has reservations or questions, there are standard diplomatic channels for that. However, Czech politics is a matter for Czech citizens and their democratically elected representatives,” he said.
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš did not want to comment on Okamura’s speech. On the social network Instagram on Sunday, he only stated that Okamura apparently took it as a speech by the chairman of the SPD, so it was intended for her voters and perhaps also for the voters of Stačilo!, which did not reach the Chamber. He does not want to deal with the statements because, according to him, they have no influence on the foreign policy of the Czech Republic. He responded to Zvaryč’s criticism by saying that he has nothing to say to the Czech government, as he is a diplomat.
In his speech, the Speaker of the Chamber also described the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as insane. When asked how Babiš will explain it in Brussels, the Czech Prime Minister replied on Monday after the government meeting that Leyenová does not even know who Okamura is.
