In 2024, during Joe Biden’s presidency, approximately 40,000 visas were revoked
The US State Department revealed Monday that it revoked approximately 100,000 foreign visas in 2025, more than double the number of revocations in the previous year.
This number includes “approximately 8,000 student visas and 2,500 special visas for individuals who have had encounters with US law enforcement for criminal activities,” the department said.
“We will continue to deport these criminals to maintain the security of the United States,” the State Department said in a statement.
In 2024, during Joe Biden’s presidency, approximately 40,000 visas were revoked, according to Fox News.
Since returning to the White House in January 2025, President Donald Trump has intensified his anti-immigration policies with increased police raids, deportations and stricter requirements for foreigners seeking travel and residency visas.
The Republican President also signed an executive order to strengthen background checks on those applying for visas to the United States.
Additionally, the government has implemented more rigorous screening processes for applicants, including monitoring social media activity.
Most of the visa revocations in 2025 affected tourists and business travelers who remained in the country after their visas expired, a government official confirmed to Fox News.
Specifically, almost 500 students had their visas revoked for drug possession and distribution, and half of the special visa revocations resulted from arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the same source.
These numbers come after the Trump administration announced, in August 2025, that it was reviewing the validity of visas for 55 million foreigners.
