Mauro Cid moves to paid reserve after authorization from the Army

The measure is not equivalent to retirement and keeps the soldier linked to the Force in inactive condition

The Army commander, General Tomás Paiva, authorized the passage of lieutenant colonel Mauro Cid for the paid reserve. The soldier was sentenced to two years in prison by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for the coup plot.

The information was released by SBT News and confirmed by Estadão. According to Cid’s lawyer, Jair Alves Pereira, the request for transfer to the reserve was accepted by the Brazilian Army and filed before sentencing.

According to the Force’s internal rules, transfer to the reserve occurs with maintenance of remuneration and requires, in the case of lieutenant colonels, a minimum of 25 years of effective service. Passing into the reserve is not equivalent to retirement and keeps the soldier linked to the Army in an inactive condition.

According to data from the Transparency Portal, Cid has been a member of the Army since March 28, 1996, 29 years and 10 months ago. Between June and November 2025, his gross remuneration varied between R$32,540.76 and R$18,419.44.

A The move to the reserve is expected to be made official this Saturday (31)with the publication of the act in the Official Gazette of the Union.

Coup plot

The agreement calls for confessed crimes or, alternatively, the setting of a custodial sentence limited to two years. The First Panel of the STF understood that it is not possible to grant judicial pardon for crimes against democracy and applied the minimum penalty provided for in the plea bargain.

Cid was the only defendant not to appeal his conviction, which brought forward the start of his sentence, in November. The lieutenant colonel was also authorized by the case’s rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, to remove the electronic ankle bracelet.
