Ukrainian authorities are already in direct contact with Elon Musk and his advisors to resolve the problem
Ukraine is working directly with SpaceX to resolve an issue that is bothering Kiev a lot.
Russia is using the Starlink satellite internet service for its own benefit, taking advantage of technology designed by Elon Musk’s company to provide information to its drones.
The guarantee was given by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, after several reports pointing to the presence of Starlink connections in the remains of long-range Russian drones that are being found on Ukrainian soil.
What is happening, the Ukrainians suspect, is that Russia takes advantage of the satellites it finds to use them for its own benefit, turning it into a Ukrainian weapon against Kiev.
Starlink is a technology that allows the drone that uses it to be impervious to the jamming that the enemy tries to do. The same is to say that it is much more difficult to stop an unmanned aircraft with this system.
“We are grateful to the president of SpaceX Gwynne Shotwell and personally to Elon Musk for the quick response and the beginning of resolving the situation”, said the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, in a note published on Telegram.
One of the Defense Minister’s advisors had already pointed out in several publications on social media that there were wreckages of Russian drones, including the Iranian-made Shahed, which showed signals from Starlink satellites.
Serhiy Beskrestnov even mentioned that there were hundreds of similar cases that were identified after attacks on targets in Ukraine.
In practice, Russia is trying to take advantage of one of Ukraine’s main advantages in this war for its own benefit. And that’s what Kiev wants to stop happening.
Ukraine uses tens of thousands of Starlink systems for battlefield communications and to fly drones. In addition to its stable condition, even in a war scenario, the service offers such resistance to enemy jamming.
Since 2022, SpaceX has made this same service available to Ukraine, which has become an essential weapon to continue fighting for resistance against Russia.
