With a candidate’s speech, Ratinho Jr. is applauded by businesspeople

The governor of Paraná, Ratinho Junior (PSD), participated this Thursday (29) in an event that brought together businesspeople and investors in the capital of São Paulo — in an informal presentation to Faria Lima of her pre-candidacy in the race for Palácio do Planalto.

Amidst operators who were reticent about the possibility of a name outside the polarization between President Lula and former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) being competitive, Ratinho Júnior defended the viability of a “moderate” candidacy and was applauded by those present.

“I believe that at the right time when someone presents an agenda for transforming Brazil, in a moderate way that brings peace and unity, I think there is a good chance of overcoming this polarization […] Nobody wants to discuss names anymore. Brazil needs a development project,” he said.

One of the pre-candidates for the PSD, he also cited surveys that show that the “poles” each concentrate 20% of the electorate. Thus, Ratinho Junior argued, there would be room for an alternative candidacy to advance among 60% of the electorate.

In the traditional Faria Lima whale building, Ratinho also spoke about the economy, with investors paying attention to signs about an economic reform agenda. The governor defended fiscal balance and for Brazil to embrace its “vocations” — for example in food production.

Public security, one of the issues that most concerns voters in Brazil according to surveys, was also on the agenda. On this front, Ratinho Junior stated that, if elected, he will send a text to the National Congress that would allow states to legislate to toughen penalties for certain crimes.

“I would forward an amendment to Congress: for crimes against life and some others, states can legislate and execute criminal norms. But they cannot relax [a lei nacional]needs to be more severe.”
