The national leader of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, revealed that the party will define by April 15th the name that will represent the party in the 2026 presidential contest. Live CNNKassab stated that the choice will be made between governors Ronaldo Caiado (Goiás), Eduardo Leite (Rio Grande do Sul) and Ratinho Júnior (Paraná).
“The criteria is political, the evaluation will be carried out over these 60 days, the month of February, March, until April 15, we understand that this name must be chosen”, pointed out the politician.
According to Kassab, the three potential candidates are “very well prepared” and have extraordinary approval in their states after eight years in office. “The three are very well prepared, they are three governors who governed their states for eight years, all three with extraordinary approval, therefore, the three are very well prepared to be good candidates and, if they win the elections, to be good presidents of the Republic”, he highlighted.
The leader explained that the selection process will take several factors into account over the next two months. “It’s worth a lot of perspective, it’s worth a lot to be able to aggregate in the second round, it’s really worth the development of this pre-campaign for each one so that we can evaluate its impact”, detailed Kassab about the factors that will influence the party’s decision.
PSD defends project for Brazil
During the interview, Kassab made a point of highlighting that the PSD does not have a power project, but rather a project for Brazil. “The most important thing is that the PSD shows Brazil that it does not have a project for power, it is a project for Brazil. A project for power is to win the election at any price. No. We are trying to have a good project with the best people in Brazilian public administration,” he stated.
Asked about the possibility of a double between the three governors on the presidential ticket, Kassab did not rule out the hypothesis, but indicated that it is not the most likely scenario. “It’s possible, this wasn’t discussed, it’s not the trend, because I see the three of them very focused on , the three of them want to be candidates, that’s very positive, and the three of them also very focused on their states, I don’t believe it, but it’s not impossible”, he explained.
Kassab also expressed his position against electoral coalitions, both in proportional and majority elections. “I am among those fighting the majority coalition, for mayor, governor and president. I hope that as quickly as possible we put an end to these coalitions. It makes no sense, only in Brazil, for there to be a party to support the candidate of another party, I naturally see a pure ticket”, criticized the leader.
