UpScrolled is a relatively new social networking app that was released around June 2025.
Recently, it has become extremely popular especially among its users, who are migrating en masse to UpScrolled in protest of the extensive censorship applied in recent months not only to TikTok, but also to other social networks such as X, Facebook and .
Key features & philosophy
The application was created by Issam Hijazi (Issam Hijazi) of Palestinian origin who lives and operates in Australia and who previously worked in large technology companies. Influenced by events such as the suppression of voices in her favor on other platforms, she founded UpScrolled to create a censorship-free space not controlled by billionaires.
The creator of the application states that this is a platform where minimal censorship is imposed and only in cases of illegal content, such as hate speech, support of terrorist organizations, any material of sexual exploitation of children, as well as the promotion of criminal activities such as drug trade, weapons, etc.
Otherwise, the platform does not impose any censorship on political opinions, while it does not play algorithmic games where some content is hidden and some is over-promoted.
The platform has a chronological flow, meaning you see everything in the order they are published and not based on the algorithm. It also focuses on free expression, authentic discussions and protecting user privacy. It should be noted that as claimed by its creators, user data is not sold to third parties for advertising purposes. The application’s servers are located in Dublin for greater protection of user privacy.
Statistics
The application is available on iOS devices (App Store), where it has a rating of 4.9 out of 5. It is also available on Android devices (Google Play), where it has a rating of 4.7 out of 5. In some countries/categories, it has even reached #1 or in the top-10 in the social networks category of the App Store.
It has seen an explosive increase in new users in the last month, with many leaving TikTok, Instagram & X. Its creator announced on January 29 that users exceeded 1 million, while in December 2025, registered users were only 150,000.
Why has it gone viral now?
Many people are taking to UpScrolled to express their displeasure at the ever-increasing censorship and algorithmic games played by Meta’s social networks (Facebook and Instagram), X and TikTok.
The application supports text, image and video posts, as well as discussions between users. It is designed so that one can easily leave the application, without causing addiction.
If someone is looking for a social network without algorithms that punish different opinions, with an emphasis on freedom of speech, especially on hot topics, Upscrolled is considered a good alternative.
It is currently only available as an app, while its online version is expected to go live soon.
