Sugar is not an enemy if one consumes it in moderation and consciously. The Office of Public Health (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic drew attention to this on the social network. He reminded that foods that do not taste sweet also contain sugar. Semi-finished products, flour, rice or pasta are also a source of sugars, which must be included in the recommended daily intake. This represents a maximum of six teaspoons (25 grams) of sugar.
“Sugar is not the enemy if consumed in moderation and with awareness – moderate consumption can be part of a balanced lifestyle. The problem is when it becomes a daily addictive escape.” experts said.
They recommend limiting the consumption of sweetened beverages, sweets and refined sugar. “Don’t drink sweetened beverages because you have a sweet tooth. It’s ideal to drink liquids during the day without adding unnecessary sugars. Better to flavor pure water with small fruits or squeezed lemon.” they added. Juices and juices are advised to be diluted with water, which will reduce the concentration of sugar in the drink.
They also suggest gradually switching to high-quality dark chocolate with a low sugar content and high cocoa content. “Start with less bitter, 60 to 70 percent chocolate, and gradually move to varieties with even higher cocoa content,” they added.
If a person has a sweet tooth, they recommend choosing fresh fruit instead of sweets. “Fruit contains natural sugars and lots of fiber to help you feel full,” they emphasized. According to ÚVZ, it is also important for good health to maintain a balanced intake and expenditure of energy, and the excess energy obtained from sugars must be burned by movement.
