Flamengo takes the field this Sunday (1/2) to compete in the 2026 Brazilian Super Cup. Rubro-Negro faces Corinthians at 4pm (Brasília time), at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília, in search of the first national title of the season.
The team has Lucas Paquetá as the big news among those listed, but the number 20 is not in the starting lineup. THE Sporting News explains the reason.
Why is Paquetá out of Flamengo’s starting lineup?
Coach Filipe Luís outlined the strategy for the duel against Corinthians and chose to start with big names on the field, such as Arrascaeta and Jorginho. The coaching staff is cautious with the starting point guard duo. Both made their season debut only last Wednesday.
Paquetá, regularized on time at the IDB, is hoping to make his debut with the club. The plan is for the midfielder to gain minutes in the final stage.
Paquetá has not played since January 6th, in West Ham’s 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest. After that game, the midfielder complained of back pain, missed the team in some matches and asked not to play again until negotiations with Flamengo were concluded.
