Kristin: Government response is “shameful”

Heloísa Apolónia (PEV)

Executive led by Luís Montenegro demonstrated that it is not up to responding to needs, according to PEV.

After a few days, Luís Montenegro announced the Government’s plans to support families, companies and local authorities most affected by the virus.

It will be 10 thousand euros, at most, for rebuilding houses; two lines of credit for companies, one for 500 million euros and the other for 1,000 million; among other measures, the total value of public support will be 2,500 million euros.

Clara Teixeira, in a first analysis, approves the news: “They distribute money to families, companies and for structural repairs”.

But, warns the economist at , “What is needed, first of all, is that they get to the field very, very quickly”.

António José Seguro also thinks that the Government is in the “right direction”, but also: “What is important is that they reach people, companies and families who are in difficulty as quickly as possible. We know the traditional State bureaucracy, there can be no bureaucracy here”.

But the same Clara Teixeira left an important criticism: “The Government really took a long time to react”.

O PEV – Ecologist Party “Os Verdes” agrees: “The Government was slow in responding to the coordination of immediate aid”.

Furthermore, the party continues in a statement, the support measures are “so short and insufficient, that they constitute a disrespect for those who are in a desperate situation after having lost their home or business”.

The PEV even writes that the Government’s response, or lack of response, to this situation is “shameful”.

The party also warns that there is a lack of operational resources on the ground, namely military personnel to help clear public roads and facilitate accessibility.

And he leaves a comparison: “All this contrasts with the answers that were given in aid of bank, by the hands of those who decide today on these crumbs of support for people and micro, small and medium-sized companies”.

The Greens consider these responses unacceptable, remembering that the bad weather will continue in mainland Portugal in the coming days.

The PEV no longer has deputies in the Assembly of the Republic in 2022, when the CDU elected 6 deputies – all from the PCP.
