Only twelve people entered Egypt from the Gaza Strip on Monday (2), the first day of the limited reopening of circulation at the Rafah crossing point, a source who works at the border told AFP this Tuesday (3).
“Five injured people and seven companions crossed the border post,” declared the source. At most, authorities allow the transit from Gaza to Egypt of 50 patients per day, accompanied by two people each, indicated three official sources on the Egyptian border.
On Monday, an official from Egypt’s Ministry of Health confirmed to AFP that three ambulances transported Palestinian patients, who “were immediately examined to determine which hospital they would be transferred to.”
Egyptian authorities mobilized 150 hospitals and 300 ambulances, in addition to 12,000 doctors and 30 emergency teams to care for patients coming from Gazaaccording to AlQahera News, a state media outlet close to Egypt’s intelligence services.
Nearly “20,000 patients, including 4,500 children, are in urgent need of medical care,” said Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of the Palestinian territory’s main hospital, Al Shifa.
but without allowing the entry of international humanitarian aid.
