The police have started a criminal investigation into the crime of homicide in the case of a gas leak in a family home in the village of Moravany in the Michalovce district. On Wednesday (February 4) before midnight, they received a call on line 158 about finding a person without signs of life in the basementwhile gas was smelled in the house. The Košice Regional Police reported on the social network that despite efforts, the person could not be revived and the doctor pronounced him dead on the spot.
“Experts were brought into the proceedings to determine the exact cause of the gas leak and the circumstances of the incident,” the police said. She also added that the measurements confirmed a serious threat to life due to the presence of dangerous gases. They secured the building, shut off the gas supply and took measures to prevent further threats to persons and property.
As Jozef Bálint, spokesman for the Regional Directorate of the Fire and Rescue Service (KR HaZZ) in Košice, said, firefighters entered the building with breathing apparatus and a gas analyzer. The analyzer in the basement recorded 30 ppm CO. “On the second floor, the gas analyzer measured 300 and on the next floor 500 ppm CO, which is the maximum the device can measure,” dodal Bálint.
