A Russian general was shot and hospitalized in Moscow, Russia’s Investigative Committee said.
An unknown person shot Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev several times in a residential building on Volokolamskoye highway in the Russian capital and fled the scene, the Committee’s spokesman said in a statement this Friday (6).
The Committee also stated that its agents are on site and that it has opened a criminal investigation for attempted murder against a senior Ministry of Defense official.
Alekseyev was transferred to a city hospital, the statement said. He is in intensive care in serious condition, according to Russian state media.
The lieutenant general is the first deputy head of Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate, the GRU, according to a 2025 report by the US Congressional Research Service.
