The damage caused by the Kristin depression can now be officially reported through a platform provided by the Government, a step considered essential for assessing the damage and activating the public support announced in recent days. The Executive emphasizes that only through this record will it be possible to measure the real impact of bad weather and define appropriate response measures.
According to information released by the Government, the mechanism for reporting and inventorying losses resulting from Storm Kristin is already operational, considered essential to assess the impacts in the affected regions and to allow for the eventual allocation of financial support.
According to the statement cited by Notícias ao Minuto, the process is aimed at citizens, companies, local authorities and the agricultural sector.
Where should losses be reported?
Damage reporting must be done through the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions portals. In the case of areas covered by the Central Regional Coordination and Development Commission and the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regional Coordination and Development Commission, the forms are now available online.
According to the same source, the system provides for different procedures depending on the type of loss and the sector affected. Housing, companies, municipal infrastructure and agricultural holdings are covered, allowing information to be collected that is considered essential for defining public support measures.
The Government emphasizes that reporting damage must be accompanied by supporting documentation whenever possible, namely photographs, descriptions of the damage and identification of the affected location. This survey will serve as a basis for decisions to be made in the coming days.
Among the measures already approved, the Government defined a simplified regime for support of up to five thousand euros for home repairs and temporary accommodation.
According to a resolution by the Council of Ministers published in Diário da República, cited by Notícias ao Minuto, this support does not require auditing and prior inspection of the site.
Up to this amount, the estimate of the eligible cost can be based on photographs presented by the applicant, allowing the process to be accelerated and delays avoided at a stage considered critical for many affected families.
Government wants to stop speculation in construction prices
At the same time, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced a set of measures to prevent unjustified increases in the prices of construction materials and services, at a time when demand for repair works tends to increase.
According to , the Food and Economic Security Authority was mobilized to carry out inspection actions on the ground, with the aim of preventing speculative practices.
The head of Government stressed that no one should take advantage of the situation caused by bad weather, appealing to the sense of responsibility of economic agents.
Exceptional regime to accelerate reconstructions
The Council of Ministers also approved an exceptional and experimental regime to accelerate urgent repair and reconstruction works in the affected areas.
This model allows certain works to progress without prior administrative control, which, according to the Prime Minister, are temporary measures for an exceptional situation.
Montenegro assured that the State will trust local authorities, citizens and companies, but left a clear warning: anyone who violates the rules will be held responsible. The Executive also admits the possibility of releasing public works workers to support urgent interventions in the most affected locations.
Reporting is essential to access support
The Government insists that reporting losses is not just an administrative act, but an indispensable condition for financial support to be granted. Without this formal registration, warns the Executive, it will not be possible to activate help mechanisms or correctly measure the damage caused by Kristin’s depression.
The authorities therefore recommend that all those affected report as quickly as possible through official channels, avoiding intermediaries and ensuring that the information reaches the competent authorities.
