The Porto Court of Appeal ordered the release of Fernando Madureira, former leader of the Super Dragões.

O Tribune da Recção do Porto ordered this Friday the release of Fernando Madureira, who was in preventive detention as part of the Operation Praetorian process.

“As a result of this decision, and in accordance with the maximum limit set by the criminal procedural law (one year and eight months of imprisonment, in this case), the Court of First Instance had, necessarily, and for the time being, to release the defendant detained preventively, subjecting him, however, to the obligation to present himself twice a week to the police and not to attend sports venues or any events related to the FCP”, informed the Porto Public Prosecutor’s Office, in a note.

The decision follows the reduction of Fernando Madureira’s sentence to three years and four months. The ruling known today changes the decision of the first instance, which had sentenced Fernando Madureira, former leader of the Super Dragões, to three years and nine months in prison, translating into a reduction of five months.

The Appeal judges eliminated one of the crimes of bodily harm previously proven.
