Prosecutor General Maroš Žilinka objected to the statements of Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), which were heard in the Saturday discussion show of STVR Sobotné dialogy. He characterized them as sharp personal attacks and name-calling. The Prosecutor General stated this on the social network.
“I express my regret for the indecent, factually and professionally unfounded personal attacks and slurs by the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic,” stated Žilinka. At the same time, the Prosecutor General emphasized that for him there will never be a higher value than legality and its protection.
The Prime Minister said on Saturday that Žilinka is interfering in politics and has lost the trust of the government. He thinks that the Prosecutor General has decided to enter the ring in the context of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The prime minister also responded to Žilinka’s statements this week about the fact that corruption was no longer investigated in Slovakia last year. According to the prime minister, the prosecution is the master of the prosecution, it is failing and Žilinka is throwing the blame on other people. “It is exactly the same as if Transport Minister Jozef Ráž (Smer-SD nominee) held a spectacular press conference and accused Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) of not building bridges,” noted the prime minister.
