With a turnaround, São Paulo beats Primavera and reacts in Paulistão

São Paulo beat Primavera 2-1 on Wednesday night, at Morumbis, in a duel valid for the 7th round of the Campeonato Paulista.

The result places Tricolor Paulista, at least momentarily, in 8th place in the competition.

The game

Before the opening whistle, the two teams arrived in a similar situation in the table. Both had seven points and were outside the knockout classification zone. The direct confrontation had decisive weight for those who still dreamed of a place in the top eight.

Pushed by the public, São Paulo started better and took control of the actions in the first half. With Lucas Moura as the main articulator, the team exchanged passes more fluidly and created at least two clear chances before the 25th minute, with shots from Tapia and Dória, both defended or deflected by the visiting defense. The situation changed after 30 minutes, when Primavera defender Afonso suffered a head injury. The defender had to be taken away by ambulance, and the stoppage slowed down Tricolor’s rhythm.

After the restart, Primavera grew into the game. The Indaiatuba team began to explore the spaces and faced danger with Paulo Baya, Gabriel Poveda and Matheus Anjos. São Paulo lost intensity, missed more passes and ended the initial stage to boos from the fans, dissatisfied with the drop in performance at Morumbis.

The second half started with a scare. After just three minutes, Primavera counterattacked quickly with Welliton, who beat Enzo Díaz and finished face to face with Rafael. Attentive, the tricolor goalkeeper made a great save and avoided the worst. Shortly after, at eight, the visiting pressure turned into a goal. After exchanging passes on the left, the ball reached Gabriel Poveda at the edge of the area. The center forward turned and finished from the left; the ball deflected off Ferraresi’s heel and deceived Rafael, opening the scoring for Primavera.

São Paulo’s response came after 25 minutes. Calleri was launched from the left, advanced into the area and crossed low to the other side. Lucas Ramón appeared with a cart, played it backwards and Lucas Moura completed it for the goal, putting Tricolor back in the match.

Four minutes later, Luciano fell inside the box after contact with defender Renato Vischi. The referee stopped the game and was called by VAR. After the review, the penalty was awarded, and Renato received a yellow card for the move. From the kick, in the 34th minute, Calleri hit firmly, with his right foot, high up, with no chance for the goalkeeper, declaring São Paulo’s turnaround.

With the result, they added three important points in the fight for classification and relieved the pressure on Morumbis.
