Iran refuses to back down despite pressure from the US: We will not give up even if war is forced upon us

Iran will never give up the right to enrich uranium, even if “a war is forced on us”. This was said by the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi on Sunday, reports TASR according to the AFP agency.

“Iran has paid a very high price for its peaceful nuclear program and uranium enrichment,” said Arakchi at a forum in Tehran. His country has long resisted pressure from Washington and developed countries, including economic sanctions.

“Why do we insist on enrichment and refuse to give it up even if war is forced upon us? Because no one has the right to dictate our behavior.” he said two days after meeting with US Ambassador Steve Witkoff in Oman. Arákčí emphasized that his country was not even intimidated by the deployment of the US Navy in the Persian Gulf.

The United States was represented at the talks by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM) was also present.

The only topic of indirect talks between Iran and the US, brokered by Oman, was Iran’s nuclear program. Other problem areas such as Iran’s ballistic missile development and production program, support for militant groups in the region and “(Iran’s) treatment of its own people” were not included in the agenda.
