Unlike most plants that have a genetically encoded color, blue hydrangeas require specific conditions. The shade of flowers is directly related to the presence of aluminum ions in the soil and its acidity. Therefore, one teaspoon dissolved in water can make hydrangeas bloom blue like prom queens. What exactly should be done to ?

How to make hydrangeas bloom blue? This is how you change the color of the flowers

If you want your garden hydrangeas to bloom blue, remember that the soil must be acidic (pH below 5.5) and contain aluminum ions available to the plant. In alkaline soil (pH above 6.5), aluminum becomes unavailable and the flowers turn pink. To acidify the soil, you can use aluminum sulfate, potassium alum or special ones. And even if you don’t have them at hand, you can use a home-made preparation for hydrangeas that will make them bloom blue in spring. All you need to do is water the bushes with 5 liters of water and 1 tablespoon of vinegar once a month. Vinegar will acidify the soil, so in just a few weeks you will see blue flowers under the windows of your house. Of course, it is important to regularly monitor the soil pH and consistent use of preparations. Also remember that white varieties of hydrangeas will never turn blue, regardless of the composition of the soil.

Even though it’s winter now, it’s worth taking it slow. Before hydrangeas begin to grow intensively, it is worth taking care of the surroundings. Spring is the perfect time to remove old leaves and weeds around bushes. You can also gently loosen the soil, taking care not to damage the shallow roots.
