In the Polish People’s Republic, many herbs were created, including those with numerous health properties. One of them delights with a sweet, sesame flavor with a noticeable note of bitterness. Halva is often enriched with nuts or dried fruit. It is available in several flavors in stores: vanilla, cocoa and chocolate.

Halva is extremely popular in Turkey, Greece and India, where it is prepared according to local recipes. That’s why tourists enjoy it on vacation.

Halva contains vitamin E and those from group B (B1, B3, B6) that have a positive effect on the nervous system and metabolism. We also find minerals in it, such as zinc, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium. In addition, it is a source of fiber that supports digestive processes.

Antioxidants, e.g. vitamin E and sesame lignans, can support the protection of cells against oxidative stress caused by free radicals. They improve the condition of the skin, hair and nails, thus delaying the aging process of the body.

In turn, sesame seeds themselves contain polyunsaturated fatty acids, mainly omega-6, which contribute to lowering the level of triglycerides and “bad” cholesterol.

Good halva is one that is crumbly and slightly fibrous. These hard, greasy ones are not good quality products.

To prepare halva, we only need sesame and honey. We can also use vanilla, chocolate or cocoa, although this is not necessary.

How to make halva? First, roast the sesame seeds in a pan until they become slightly brown. Then blend them until smooth and add honey. Mix everything until a sticky consistency is obtained. In this step, we can add nuts or dried fruit.

Put the halva prepared in this way into a mold and knead it. Finally, put it in the fridge for a few hours to harden.
