The Russian bombing of the city of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region resulted in the death of an 11-year-old girl and her mother, and at least seven people, including another child, remain injured. Despite diplomatic efforts, Russia refuses to back down from its territorial demands.
Russian forces killed an 11-year-old girl and her mother in a bombardment of the city of Sloviansk in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, local authorities said on Tuesday. Another seven people were injured in the attack on the industrial center. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.
“The dead are an 11-year-old girl and her mother. Among the injured is a 7-year-old girl,” wrote the governor of the Donetsk region Vadym Filashkin on social networks. He added that rescuers are on the scene and the number of victims is still being determined.
Continued Russian attacks
Russia continues its attacks on Ukrainian territory while engaging in negotiations to end the war it launched on February 24, 2022. Although the U.S., which is brokering the talks, wants the war to end by the middle of this year, Kiev and Moscow remain at odds over control of the territory.
As part of any deal, Russia is pushing for full control over the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. It currently controls about a fifth of Ukraine’s territory, including parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
