The disunity in the coalition causes an uproar: Šipoš called Migaľ the loser of the day after the recall

  • The opposition criticizes the disunity of the coalition during the vote on the dismissal of ministers.
  • Investments Minister Samuel Migaľ faces reservations and did not receive clear support from the coalition.
  • 68 of the 114 deputies present voted for Migaľ’s dismissal, 46 were against.
  • Coalition MPs Hlas-SD and SNS abstained from voting on Migaľ.
  • Parliament rejected opposition proposals to dismiss seven ministers.

Progresívne Slovensko (PS) pointed out, for example, reservations against Minister of Health Kamil Šašek (Hlas-SD) and Minister of Investments Samuel Migaľ (independent). The opposition points to the disunity of the coalition, when during the vote in the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic on Migaľ’s dismissal, the members of Hlasu-SD and SNS did not vote against. According to the opposition, it is a shame and proof that Migaľ does not have support.

“We have a minister here who had more votes for no confidence than for confidence, we have several ministers here who, despite the fact that various coalition partners expressed that they are slowly subject to criminal prosecution, as it was in the case of Mr. Migaľ, or they fundamentally fail, as was the case with Mr. Šašek, and they have no confidence, so when it came to breaking bread, to functions, to ‘Bavaráky’, all colleagues supported each other. For me, this is a message from the vote,” the vice-chairman of the NR SR told journalists Martin Dubéci (PS).

Michal Truban (PS) called the result of the vote on Migaľ’s dismissal a disgrace, he should resign himself. “I think that only some 48 members of Smer voted for him to be a minister. All the others abstained, which is also their shame, because this minister is also being investigated by the European prosecutor’s office. All institutions, such as the Public Procurement Office or the Supreme Audit Office, canceled his tenders, he continues to secretly continue with them, and after this result, if he had any basic self-worth at all, he would resign from this post,” he emphasized.

Michal Šipoš, head of the parliamentary club Slovakia – For the People, drew attention to the disputes in the coalition. He called Migaľ the “loser of the day”. “He has absolutely no support even from his own people, because they could not support him in the vote,” he stated.

Chairman of KDH Milan After the vote, Majerský emphasized that although the ministers remained in their positions, they do not have a “blank check” and cannot “go around” as they want. “We will continue to scrutinize them, and the fact that some have resisted perhaps bringing it to the National Council for over a year does not mean that we will not continue to make those efforts,” he told reporters.

On Tuesday, MPs rejected opposition proposals to dismiss seven ministers. Negotiations on the proposals have been moving for several months. 68 out of 114 present voted for Migaľ’s dismissal, 46 MPs were against. Deputies of the Hlas-SD and SNS coalition parties did not present themselves. Unlike Smer-SD, they were not against his recall. Migaľ remained in office, as the opposition does not have enough votes to express no confidence, but according to the representatives of Hlasu-SD and SNS, the coalition partners wanted to send him a signal that they are not satisfied with his work.
