A Russian drone attack killed four people, three were young children and their father, in a town west of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, the children’s pregnant mother was rescued, Ukrainian authorities said on Wednesday (11).
Russia attacked Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force said, adding that 112 of them were shot down or neutralized.
According to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a drone hit a residential building where a family of five lived in the city of Bohodukhiv on Tuesday night (10).
“As a result of the attack, the house was completely destroyed and consumed by flames, and the family was trapped under the rubble,” said the post on the Telegram messaging app.
The family had been evacuated from a nearby village days before the offensive, Ukrainian police said.
Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, in an earlier Telegram post, said two 1-year-old boys and a 2-year-old girl had died, along with a 34-year-old man.
Kharkiv, which is about 30 km from the country’s northeastern border, and the region have been a frequent target of Russian airstrikes.
There was no immediate comment from Russia on the attack. Both Moscow and Kiev deny they are targeting civilians in the war, which began with the full-scale invasion of Russia in February 2022.
