Video shows 260-meter ship breaking its moorings and becoming adrift in the Tagus River

A large container ship was adrift in the Tagus River last Tuesday, after breaking its moorings in the Port of Lisbon, in a situation that, according to the Maritime Authority, “could have been complicated”, but which was resolved quickly and effectively.

The incident involved the Cyprus-flagged ship Seattle C, approximately 260 meters long, which ended up breaking loose due to the strong current in the river. According to a Maritime Authority source, “the cables broke due to the force of the current”, causing the vessel to temporarily lose control.

Images released show the moment the ship drifts in the Tagus, generating concern due to its size and the potential risk to other vessels and port infrastructure.

The situation was quickly controlled thanks to the intervention of a tug and the actions of port pilots, who managed to stabilize the vessel and avoid more serious consequences.

The Seattle C remains, for now, on the Tagus River, in front of the Banática area, while the necessary operations to ensure navigation safety take place.
