Petunias are annual ornamental plants from the nightshade family, distinguished by their various colors of cupped shape. The flowers give off a sweet scent and are very popular.
Most often, they are placed in balcony boxes or pots, although they are also grown in the ground. We should be interested in planting them in February if we want them to bloom like a fairy tale in spring and summer.
February seems to be a bit of a lazy month when it comes to . Meanwhile, this is the time to start preparing for spring. In February, sowing of some vegetables and flowers for seedlings begins. One of the flower species that we should take care of sowing in February are petunias.
It is most often cultivated in Poland garden petuniasalso known as common. They bloom throughout the season – from May to October. However, sowing petunias should be started at the end of winter. It’s not difficult at all, but we will have to devote some time and patience to it. We need small pots with holes in the bottom and permeable soil with a slightly acidic pH (5.5-6.5).
We plant petunia seeds 3 in one place – because they are very small. After sowing, we press them gently, cover them with a small amount of soil and spray them with water. Then you need to ensure that they are provided with appropriate conditions for growth. They require a bright location and a temperature of about 18-25 degrees Celsius.
When the seedlings produce the first two true leaves, they need to be transplanted into larger pots. We should also start fertilizing, for example with a home-made fertilizer made of water and citric acid (5 liters of water and 5 g of citric acid). Petunias need to be watered every 2 weeks with this mixture.
In the second half of May, the plants can be moved outdoors. First, however, they require hardening for about a week. At the turn of May and June, petunias sown in February should bloom beautifully.
