American Minister Rubio will come to Bratislava. He expects Slovakia to take clear steps towards Russian energy

During his visit to Bratislava on Sunday, the American Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marco Rubio, will also negotiate with Slovak representatives about cutting off from Russian energy raw materials. He stated this on Thursday in an address to journalists before departing for the Munich Security Conference (MSC), writes TASR.

  • Marco Rubio will visit Bratislava on an official visit.
  • He will negotiate the disconnection from Russian energy raw materials.
  • He will also meet with representatives of Hungary and Slovakia.
  • The topics will be regional security, NATO and nuclear energy.
  • The visit is part of the trip after the Munich Security Conference.

The head of American diplomacy, when asked by a journalist whether he plans to insist on the end of purchases of Russian energy raw materials in Slovakia and Hungary, said that “he will hold these talks with them”. “We will talk to them about what needs to happen,” he added.

Bilateral relations and priorities

“I will not discuss what we will talk about in these meetings. First of all, these are countries that are very strong with us, very cooperative with the United States, closely cooperating with us. It was a good opportunity to visit them. They are two countries that I have never been to,” Rubio answered a supplementary question.

The US minister was previously asked if he was traveling to Hungary to help Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with public opinion polls. “The president (Donald Trump) said he’s very supportive, and so are we, but of course we planned this visit as bilateral. They came to the U.S. before, last year, late last year. We told them that when I have the opportunity, I’ll visit them, and this is the best opportunity. It’s very close (from Munich),” Rubio said.

Slovakia visit program

“We will also stop in Slovakia, we met them at the end of last year in Florida, or at the beginning of this year – I can’t remember – during the holidays. So we also told them that we would stop. So it was logical that we added it to this trip,” he stated.

Rubio will attend the Munich Security Conference over the weekend, from where he will travel to Bratislava for meetings with representatives of the Slovak government. He should negotiate with them about regional security, nuclear energy, NATO or the modernization of the Slovak army.
