Miguel Lima, climatologist and researcher at the Dom Luiz Institute, at the University of Lisbon, points to “calm” days, with “some sun” in the Center and South. In some regions it will rain, but nothing comparable to the previous weeks.
The next few days will bring an improvement in the especially in the Center and South of the country. For the North, there is a forecast of rain, but less intense than in recent weeks, says climatologist Miguel Lima.
In an interview with SIC Notícias, the expert says that the The next few days will be “calm”com “some sun” and no rain in the Center and South of Mainland Portugal.
“The Azores anticyclone is in a very good location so that we don’t have a depression train”, he adds.
In the North, Douro Litoral and Minho there will be “some rain” as well as some frost in the highlands. Although, it will not be “comparable” with previous weeks.
According to forecasts, it will be a Carnival “calmer” in terms of rainbut with some cloudiness.
The climatologist and researcher at the Dom Luiz Institute, at the University of Lisbon, also explains that the anticyclonem one “very large variability”which means the storm train “It’s not common.”
“It doesn’t mean that the next winters won’t be like this. But this was a very unusual phenomenon, not directly exacerbated by climate change. Yes, there may have been some influence on the amount of precipitation (…) or the wind”, he states.
Portugal has been hit in recent weeks by several storms, which caused damage, injuries and even deaths and devastated several regions. After days of intense rain, strong wind and floods, the country is now preparing for a period of greater tranquility.
