When the Buddha was once asked by his disciple what he should do after losing the true love of his life, the Asian sage simply replied: Find another true love. According to scientists, he was right. There is no such thing as one fateful love. Experts from the Kinsey Institute found that most people fall in love twice in their lifetime.
The team surveyed 10,036 single adults between the ages of 18 and 99. He asked the participants, “How many times in your life have you been passionately in love?” The results show that 14.2 percent of respondents have never experienced passionate love. 27.8% of people experienced it once, 30.3% twice, 16.8% three times and 10.9% four or more times.
“People talk about falling in love all the time, but this is the first study to really ask how many times it happens in a lifetime. For most people, passionate love turns out to be something that only happens a few times in a lifetime.” said lead study author Dr. Amanda Gesselman. The authors published the study in the journal Interpersona. They point out that until now little was known about the frequency of passionate love throughout life. “Older participants reported slightly more passionate love experiences than younger participants,” they deliver.
According to them findings suggest that most people do not have just one soul mate, but love multiple people throughout their lives. The finding that most participants experienced passionate love twice on average suggests that passionate love is common in the sense that most people experience it at least once, but that it is rare on an individual level.
