AI enters the routine of Brazilians and has already been used by 87%, says study

Artificial intelligence has once and for all entered the routine of Brazilians. According to a survey carried out by Instituto Locomotiva in partnership with OpenAI, the company that owns ChatGPT, 98% of Brazilians say they know at least one AI tool and 87% say they have already used an application or website in the segment.

.

Use also appears in basic day-to-day tasks, such as supporting studies, searching for information, organizing activities and work demands.

“It appears in simple tasks, in the search for information, in study and at work, as a tool that is gaining ground. And Brazilians already see that this presence tends to grow even more in the coming years”, said Renato Meirelles, president of Instituto Locomotiva.

At the same time as its use grows, one of the main debates linked to technology is gaining strength: the regulation of artificial intelligence.

Governments around the world have expressed concern about risks associated with the use of AI, such as data privacy, misinformation and impacts on the job market. In parallel, the challenge is to ensure that these rules do not slow down innovation.

In Brazil, the majority of interviewees defend the creation of standards for the sector, but with clarity and social participation. The survey shows that 82% say the country should establish laws to regulate the use and development of technology.

.

On the other hand, 86% agree that regulation needs to be simple and objective so as not to hinder technological advancement, while 68% believe that excessive rules for companies that develop or use AI could also end up penalizing citizens.

The survey also indicates that 75% of Brazilian internet users consider it safe to use artificial intelligence in public services, an area in which different governments have already begun to incorporate technology to increase service efficiency, automate responses, streamline administrative processes and facilitate the population’s access to information and digital services.
