Police target “political nucleus” of Comando Vermelho in mega operation in Amazonas

Among the suspects arrested this morning is Anabela Cardoso Freitas, member of the Bidding Committee of the City of Manaus and former chief of staff to the mayor. In addition to her, former advisors to three councilors and an employee of the Amazonas Court of Justice were targets.

According to investigations, the suspects facilitated fraudulent hiring in the transport and logistics sectors. Shell companies were used to buy drugs in Colombia destined for Manaus, the starting point for distributing the substance nationwide. With the operation, the group generated around R$70 million reais.

According to the police, the group used river and land routes to transport the drugs, with the help of contracted companies. Reports pointed to “incompatibility between the financial volume handled and the economic capacity” declared by the linked companies.
