Luigi Mangione is accused of murdering its chief executive in Manhattan earlier this month, according to newly released court documents.
According to the indictment, Mangione faces 11 counts, including one count of first-degree murder (intentional) and two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the Dec. 4 fatal shooting of Thompson, along with other weapons and forgery charges.
A Manhattan grand jury indicted Mangione on second-degree murder as a crime of terrorism, according to a statement from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“This was a horrific, well-planned and targeted killing intended to shock and intimidate”Bragg said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
“It happened in one of the busiest parts of our city, threatening the safety of residents and tourists, as well as commuters and business people just starting their day.”
The 26-year-old will not contest his extradition to New York, his lawyer Karen Friedman Anifilo told CNN. He will appear in a Pennsylvania court for an extradition hearing on Thursday, when a judge will decide the next steps for him to return to New York to face the indictment.
Maggione faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted, according to the district attorney’s office.
