Olivais Parish Council
Between December 21st and January 5th, the Olivais Parish Council will be very empty. Activities cancelled, parents perplexed.
Public employees will, as usual, have sick leave during this festive season: on December 24th and 31st they do not need to work.
More Olivais Parish Councilin Lisbon, there will not be 2 days of tolerance: they will be 7 days of grace between December 21st and January 5th.
That is, over the next two weeks, counting from this Saturday, an employee of that Board only needs to work one day; or December 27th, or January 3rd – both Friday. You have almost two weeks of vacation.
“These are people who show great dedication, many of them work from sunrise to sunset, and, therefore, deserve this recognition. Basically, it is a demonstration of kindness towards them, a homage”, justifies President Rute Lima, in the newspaper.
Rute Lima is also aware that the public servants have a lot of work and a “low salary”; thus, this is a way of being compensated because “throughout the year, they work a lot and, often, to the detriment of their families, without receiving overtime”.
This prolonged stop is “normal”, remains president – in Easter and no Carnival too there are more grace days than usual.
The Olivais Parish Council involves 260 employees. The president ensures that no essential services will be affectedsuch as urban hygiene and school cafeterias.
However, there are pais who stayed perplexed: had already enrolled children in activities promoted by the Board during those two weeks, and now these activities they were cancelled. They will get a refund in January.
